From de time Dr Steve lef de wuk dem boys know that people would a have problems wid elections. When he tek de wuk Dr Steve seh that he gun mek sure de elections results come in fast. Burnham use to tek two weeks to declare de results. He didn’t shame when he colleagues in Caricom use to ask him how it can tek so long when dem does hand in de results de same day.
In de days dem had a young boy name Patrick and he use to follow Burnham foot to foot. He learn from Burnham. When he tek over de PSU de constitution was that every president should not serve more than two terms and a term was two years. That was nearly forty years ago.
De union call elections last week and up to now de results can’t come in. Is only 8,000 votes to count but Dr Steve ain’t deh and Patrick claim how votes got to come from some remote area. That was Burnham excuse too.
Then like Burnham he wait till de last minute to announce how he win de elections. Well, fuh a man who win de elections he decide to hide from everybody. He did not go to de union hall pun Labour Day; he did not go to Critchlow Labour College; he did not march. In fact, dem boys want to know wheh he deh and if he got de keys to de union hall wid him.
Dem boys seh Dr Steve smell de rat. He know problems was coming when he learn that de union had problems wid de voters’ list. That is why he play sick and stay home. But he jump up wid speed when de Caricom people call him and ask him to lead de Observer Mission to Curacao.
Dr Steve mek dem boys remember Jagdeo. He was another one who use to look fuh every excuse to fly out de country. He still flying. Like Dr Steve, other people paying fuh de trip.
Dem boys believe that de PSU holding de elections results till Dr Steve come back today.
Talk half and don’t compare Patrick wid anybody.
