A 34 year old man of Crane Old Road, West Coast Demerara yesterday appeared at the New Amsterdam
Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge of Robbery Under Arms.
Shilendra Boodram appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore and was unrepresented. Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison until May 12 for report.
According to initial reports, on Wednesday police intercepted a stolen car during a routine road block at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice.
The owner of the car had reported filling up gas at the Guyoil Gas Station at Seawell Village, Corentyne around 6pm when a man inquired if he was heading to New Amsterdam, the driver of the car told the man that he was not, after which the individual then asked if he was heading to Canje and the driver answered in the affirmative. The man then boarded. During the journey the passenger whipped out a knife and ordered the driver out of the vehicle, the perpetrator made good his escape with the man’s vehicle, a Toyota Fielder wagon.
A report was made and road blocks were set up. At around 9pm the car was intercepted. The suspect was driving the car when it was stopped. He was taken into police custody.
