A mason was remanded to prison, yesterday, after he was caught by police with over six pounds
of marijuana in his possession.
The man, Raymond Vankenie, 35, of Vryheid’s Lust, West Canje, Berbice, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and pleaded not guilty to having 3.43 kg of cannabis in his possession for trafficking on April 19 at New Amsterdam, Berbice.
He was remanded to prison until May 8 when he will appear in the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court. Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-a-Fat who represented the defendant told the court that the narcotics were found in a vehicle his client had borrowed from someone. The police prosecutor disclosed that the case file is still incomplete since several statements and an analyst report are outstanding.
