Dear Editor,
As the government is doing its work to better Guyana, we on the ground especially here in Berbice are being starved for true and correct information from the government’s public relations department and its officials at large. I must say that on Saturday night (April 8th, 2017) on DTV Ch.8 there was a very good and educational programme called “Alliance On The Move”, which is an AFC programme. It was a programme that touched at the heart of what Berbicians wanted to hear. Minister Ramjattan’s explanations as to why the economy is slow were totally true.
We can all see that the previous economy was sustained mostly by illegal monies coming from the narco-dealers. He dealt with some very important topics such as the sugar industry, agriculture, security and employment. My most enjoyable part of the programme was to see once again the young and energetic Mr. Abel Seetaram, who was introduced by the moderator as a man missing in action (MIA), but he is actually travelling all across Berbice doing the government’s work in helping to make Guyana a better place.
Mr. Seetaram lit up the programme more with his straight forwardness as to what is hampering development in Berbice and Guyana at large. I totally agreed with the young man, when he mentioned the PPP controlled NDCs and their sidelining of developmental works in the various villages. The Minister of Local Government needs to act quickly to solve those matters. Lots of PPP controlled NDCs are not doing the work they are supposed to.
Mr. Seetaram hit the nail directly on the head when he said that all rice farmers are making profit. If the rice farmers were not making a profit, why then are they fighting for more lands to cultivate? I do believe that Berbicians whole-heartedly welcomed last Saturday night’s programme. We would like to see more programmes of such nature, because it educates us. I think we will also want more of that young man on the programmes, so that we can hear the truth and be educated.
I call on the government to have a more dynamic public relations department that will disseminate information to the public in a very timely manner. In this way we will not be led astray by the opposition talkers. I also think it is high time that Berbice also has its own Government\Berbice Public Relations Department. I am sure with people like Seetaram and others in such a department, the PPP won’t bring false and fake news to us as they are doing now. Better your public relations department Mr. President or you and your government will feel the heat come 2020 because of the false and fake news being peddled by the opposition.
