Petra Organisation supports Circuit Ville Track & Ball Competition

Remaining consistent with its mission to assist in the development of sport within communities, Petra Organisation’s latest effort came on Thursday when Co-Director Troy Mendonca handed over the winning trophy and balls for the Circuit Ville Jaguars Youth & Sports Club upcoming Track & Ball Competition.

The Launch, which was conducted at the Parade ground, Carmichael Street, also saw in attendance President of the Club Owan Wills and players from the participating teams.
Mendonca presented the trophy and balls to Wills in the presence of players, noting that the gesture was another extension of his entity’s desire to see youths in the various communities gainfully engaged in activities that will benefit their lives and not those that could be a negative to their future.
Wills in response thanked the Organisation for its support and promised that it will be utilised to the benefit of the youths.
The new concept is a combination of running and football and according to Wills the sport has been catching on very fast and is an original product of Guyana and is quickly being embraced by the communities.
The participating communities which are located along the Linden / Soesdyke Highway and Upper East Bank are: Timehri, Swan, Kuru Kururu, Hararuni, Laluni, Soesdyke, St. Cuthbert’s Mission and Circuit Vile/ Yarrowkabra.
The tournament will be staged tomorrow, at the Timehri Red Ground.
What is Track & Ball?
Track & ball is a combination of Athletics and Football. The key factor of the game is based on speed, fitness and endurance. It enables teams to use their running speed and fitness at an advantage to score goals and points against another.
The game allows Sporting fans to see how fast is one team against another. The team who acquire the most running points in a league or tournament will be given the top prize and also be crowned the fastest team in that league or tournament.
How Track & Ball is played?
The game is judged by goals and points; the teams that accumulate the most goals and points win the game.
Teams are required to run a relay race before a football match. The team that wins the race stands a better chance of winning the game since the race accumulates the first goal.
