Fire-fighters were called to Noble House Seafood, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD)
around noon yesterday after a fuel tank exploded at the facility while workers were refueling a trawler.
When this newspaper arrived at the scene, dozens of workers flocked the compound to watch the blaze which took firefighters about an hour to contain.
According to reports, workers were refueling a trawler from a tank in which diesel was stored. They were using a pump. The cover for the tank reportedly blew off and diesel escaped and came into contact with the exhaust manifold for the pump. This caused an explosion.
Fire-fighters used foam and water to put out the blaze that destroyed six fuel tanks. Luckily, no one was injured.
