After more than five months, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is still investigating the allegation made against two detectives that they deliberately tried to cover-up the murder of 26-year-old carpenter, Faiyaz Narinedatt.
The two detectives, who are still on the job, are said to have ignored Narinedatt’s relatives when they reported that the man was murdered and not killed in a hit and run accident as was initially reported.
The relatives said that they provided details of Narinedatt slaying to some of the detectives, and even identified the suspects and a vehicle that was used to transport the corpse.
But they said that the detectives failed to question any of the suspects. One detective even asked, “Where is the evidence?”
The truth of the carpenter’s death was eventually exposed after his relatives contacted officials at CID headquarters, Eve Leary, who put the Major Crimes Unit ranks on the case.
Residents and police sources from Berbice have stated that the detectives under scrutiny were closely associated with 27-year-old US-based Guyanese, Marcus Bisram, who has been implicated in the murder.
Yesterday, the carpenter’s relatives expressed their dissatisfaction at the way the police were dealing with the investigation regarding the two policemen.
“They are trying to cover up this thing because it is more than two police who are involved in this thing,” a relative noted.
In response to the victims relatives’ claims, a source from the OPR said that investigations involving police officers take a longer time when compared to a normal citizen since the matter has to be passed down to different departments.
The source said that the probe into the two detectives’ misconduct is still active.
This newspaper was informed that on the night Narinedatt was murdered (November 1, last), there were two policemen providing security at the home of overseas-based Guyanese, Marcus Brian Bisram.
“Those two police are now claiming that they did not see or hear anything but money passed because neighbours saw what happened,” a police source, who was probing the case explained.
Orlando Dickie, 39, of Stevedore Housing Scheme, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown; Radesh Motie, 39, an excavator operator, of 124 Number 78 Village, Corentyne, Berbice; Diadath Datt, 18, of 98 Number 71 Village, Corentyne, Berbice; Harripaul Parsram, 49, of 164 Number 71 Village, Corentyne, Berbice and Niran Yacoob, 37, of 65 Number 67 Village, Corentyne Berbice were subsequently charged.
