-donates 200 reading glasses
Ophthalmologist, Dr. Aaron Smalley from the United States of America is conducting
an upgraded training programme for the local ophthalmologists at the Eye Clinic at the Georgetown Public Hospital Incorporated (GPHC).
The training is to update the skills of local ophthalmologists, specifically upgrades on conducting cataract surgeries.
Local ophthalmologists from the Suddie Hospital and from the Linden Hospital Complex were also invited to be a part of the training programme. The five-day training programme commenced on Monday with a Continuing Medical Examination class about eye examination, eye diseases and treatments.
Two hundred reading glasses were also donated. National Programme Manager for the Eye Clinic, Charles Vandyke, said that the reading glasses will be distributed to persons living in the remote hinterland areas.
“This will go a long way to help us when we go out to medical outreach in these areas”, Vandyke said.
Dr. Smalley is known for making donations to GPHC and the general health sector in Guyana. Two years ago Dr. Smalley donated medical equipment to conduct cataract surgery.
