At this time there is no need to rotate leadership in the AFC

Dear Editor,
I am amazed to hear so many persons are saying that the leadership of the AFC/office holders should be rotated. They all probably want to be leaders and hold these offices, since the AFC is in Government to gratify their ego and to hell about the people of Guyana and those who make the sacrifices to have a successful AFC. Self ambition will be to the detriment of the AFC in a Coalition that only win by 4000 votes.
To those who want to be leaders, I say do you know what it takes to be a successful leader/leaders of a party/government? Ask Ramjattan and his A team. I have a lot of issues with Ramjattan at present, but my sober judgement, the intent of AFC as a third party, my experience in management and capability to assess performances, must take its course and support Ramajttan as the AFC leader, Patterson as the GS and Trotman as the Chairman etc or else we would lose all the sacrifices that was made.
I do know that some of the negative performances of the coalition, is going to overshadow the AFC, but this is the reality. Now in these challenging times, the present leader and executives/office holders of AFC, have gained experience/expertise in management, both at the party and government level. Should we throw this away? The trial and tribulations of party and government management, especially against the racially polarized PPP and PNC, is nerve wrenching/shattering.
I have received emails from both Minister Ramjattan and Minister Patterson way after midnight. This is a sacrifice, of family life etc, hence, the party must support them in all their endeavours. No party must attempt to reorganize, during the time they are in government, especially as a minority partner. How can you change a horse, half way down in the race?
The party constitution and its intent are very clear and democratic. The constitution did not say that the leaders must not be elected for another term or more, or they should not seek nomination, it did not say “shall or will” but it “ought to rotate”, meaning that the delegates will dictate their removal or retention (rotation)through democratic voting. The AFC has such an Electoral College system like the USA. So what is all this entire bacchanal on the media?
I have great respect for Minister Trotman, especially as one of the founders of the AFC, however, his piece in Kaieteur News confused me. Does he want to be the leader? A black leader of AFC will put Jagdeo/PPP back in office. We all know this. By its APNU performances is trying its best to do that. Why would Trotman support rotation, which is not consistent in the party constitution, especially during the time his party is in government? I hope my assumption is wrong.
Many persons are against Ramjattan and others in the leadership, because Ramjattan did not get them the jobs/opportunities they wanted, as an AFC member, unlike the APNU part of the coalition. But Ramjattan demonstrated what he preached; that this is the people’s government and you must hold offices based on your suitability and a competitive process. You cannot want to commit offences and Ramjattan must use his office to get you out, like the old system.
I have heard people say, “my son got involved with the police and Ramjattan is not helping, I am not going to give support to the AFC and Ramjattan again”. It is the first time, to my knowledge, that the small man can get justice, with so many rouge cops hindering the rate of progress of Ramjattan and some of the players. This is the type of leader for party/Guyana. There are several criteria that make up leaders/executives. As an example, financial support, the man, his image, his ideas, his experience, qualifications etc. Ramjattan not only possess these fine qualities, but he commanded the largest financial support to the AFC, both at home and abroad.
The AFC delegates /members, should not get mislead, by those who want to hold high offices in the party, by getting the present leader /office holders out. Do not destroy what yourself and many of us put together do not destroy management skills because it does not come easily. Ramjattan, Trotman, Patterson and others have done a good job, by their dedication, hard work, conviction, expertise, advisors etc. to get the corrupt PPP out, and they need your support to deal with the allegedly corrupt APNU.
