The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) is taking some tough actions to get hotels across the country to toe the line when it comes to the regulations.
Yesterday, the authority in an advertisement published in the state-owned Guyana Chronicle, listed more than 60 hotels in the three regions which they say must contact them before month-end over registration issues.
GTA explained that all tourism businesses must register with the entity. These included hotels, guest houses, lodges, resorts, inns, apartments, tour operators and tourist guides.
“The Tourism Regulations also requires that all tourism businesses must obtain a licence to operate from the authority in accordance to the…regulations made under the Guyana Tourism Act 2002.”
The regulations include the Tourism Accommodation Establishments Regulations No. 16 of 2008; Interior Lodges and Resorts Regulations No.1 of 2008; Tour Operators Regulations No. 17 of 2008 and Tourist Guides Regulations No. 18 of 2008.
In Demerara, the advertisements listed 36 hotels, guest houses, inns and apartments that have to get themselves in order and make contact with GTA before month-end. These include a number of Brazilian hotels like Rockies, Hotel Brazil and Hotel Marinho, and Alpha, C Island Hotel, Hilton Crest and Paradise Inn.
In Essequibo, three hotels were named- Caribbean Heat Hotel, Traveller’s Lodge and Comfort Inn.
