Logos Hope officially opened its doors to the people of Guyana on December 22, 2016 to access its wide variety of reading material for all age groups. Georgetown is the 129th port that the Logos Hope has docked since its first journey back in February 2009.
The Captain of Logos Hope, James Dyer, and other crew members warmly welcomed a surprised Sharmila De’Abreu, the six-millionth visitor when she stepped onboard. “We would like to welcome you on board. You represent the six-millionth visitor aboard the ship.”
Sharmila D’Abreu and her family were absolutely shocked that they made history for the Logos Hope by being their six millionth visitor on their very first visit to the world’s largest floating book fair. D’Abreu who couldn’t hide her surprise and amusement told Kaieteur News,” We were very surprised at it all. It is really good to be here and we are very happy to be here.”
“It is really amazing. We came and thought this is the reception everybody gets for Logos and we are getting to tour the entire ship. This is awesome”.
D’Abreu and her family were presented with a gift bag and a chance to purchase a large quantity of books. Also, they got the opportunity to tour the entire ship.
Managing Director of Logos Hope, South African, Seelan Govender, said to the six millionth visitor, “It is so wonderful to have you here with us at this historic time.”
According to Lisa Carter, a visitor onboard also for first time since the vessel docked, said she came because of her son who was really excited about the world’s largest floating book fair.
Carter said that her son was so excited that he wanted to go home and start reading his books that he purchased.
The crew members onboard said that they are really enjoying Guyana and would love to visit again. One crew member said that he had tried the Guyanese fruit cake over the Christmas season and he loves it.
The vessel is docked at the Guyana National Shipping Wharf, La Penitence, and an entrance fee of $100 is required.
The book fair will be closing on January 8, 2017.
