Sawpit SC and Zeeburg have secured their places in the final of the West Demerara Cricket Association T20 tournament after recording victories in their respective semi final games played recently.
At Belle Vue, Sawpit SC defeated Rising Stars by nine wickets in a game that was reduced to 10 overs due to rain. Rising Stars took first strike and managed 94-7 with Marvin Cheong scoring 29; Zaheer Khan had 2-14. Sawpit SC responded with 95-1 in 7.2 overs. Zafar Khan struck 39; Cheong took 2-13.
At Joe Vieira Park, Zeeburg overcame Meten-Meer- Zorg by four wickets. Meten-Meer-Zorg took first turn at the crease and were bowled out for 105 in 19.1 overs. Zaheer Haniff made 30 while Mahendra Nandkishore got 22. T. Mohamed picked up 3-10 and Richie Looknauth 2-20. Zeeburg replied with 109-6 in 15 overs. Amrit Rai struck 39; Anil Sookdeo captured 3-12.
Meanwhile, Team B beat Team A by eight runs in a 50-over trial game held recently at Canal Number Two to select West Demerara 50-over franchise team. Team B batted first and made 179 all out in 32 overs. Yestesh Dhanpaul hit 58, while Malcolm Hubbard got 53 as Marvin Cheong claimed 4-30 and V. Jadunauth 2-10.
Team A responded with 171 all out in 39.3 overs. Balbinder Shivpersaud made 25; Richie Looknauth got 24 and Deoram Chanderbir 19. S. Khan snared 4-40 and A. Safraz 2-5. (Zaheer Mohamed)
