Dear Editor,
Please grant me some space in your newspaper to highlight an atrocity that has occurred at the Lethem Regional Hospital. I am a pensioner, age 67 years and have resided in Lethem for the past ten (10) years; I am a diabetic patient that has to visit this hospital every month for my medication. Last month at this hospital after seeing the doctor, I went to the pharmacy to collect my medication. After handing my card with the relevant medication to the pharmacy, I sat on a chair to collect my medication. After sitting there for a while, I noticed persons coming after me receiving their medications. I had to wait a long time to collect mine.
This month, (November) on the 30th , I went to the hospital where I saw the doctor and was given my paper to collect my medication. I handed in my papers at the pharmacy and sat on a chair to collect medication. Lo and behold! The same thing that happened to me last month took place again, so I went to the attendant in the pharmacy and asked the person why someone who comes after me is getting his medication and to my surprise he started laughing at me. This made me very angry and I started to ask if because I am an old man, I am being discriminated against, not once, but twice. It seems to me that these interior personnel working at this hospital are a set of persons who do not perform professionally. This I would not stand for.
I have campaigned in the last general election for the APNU + AFC for change not continuation. I was thrown out of the hospital – by a traffic cop who I can identify, also by another interior official who I do not know if he is a doctor or a guard at this hospital – without my medication. Is this the change we have worked so hard to get?
