Two months after running from Police Station to Police Station, relatives of a 37-year-old woman who went missing two months ago, attracted detectives to accompany them to a shack in Belle West, West Bank Demerara
(WBD). That was the location where the woman was allegedly last seen alive.
Yesterday, ranks from the La Grange Police Station went to the home where they broke a padlock on the door of the shack to search for evidence that would possibly link the owner to the disappearance of Shawnette Savory.
It took the cops less than 10 minutes to search inside the shack, the yard and a neighbour’s septic tank for evidence, but nothing was found.
Savory was reportedly a friend of the person who resides at the shack.
When the woman went missing, persons in the area called and informed her family that she was last seen at the Belle West house in the company of the man who resides there with one of his siblings.
When relatives related this information to the police, ranks from the Wales Police Station went to the location about a month ago but they did not enter the property.
After pleading with the police to go into the house and search, ranks finally gave in yesterday but the woman’s relatives are claiming that the ranks only entered the shack and look around.
“They didn’t search through to see if there are any pictures, documents, clothing or anything,” a relative said.
Neighbours alleged that the occupant of the house has not returned home since the police went there to search the first time, raising suspicions that he might have indeed been involved in her disappearance.
Shawnette was last seen at Eccles, East Bank Demerara on August 28, last, when they all attended an uncle’s birthday party. She reportedly then headed home.
On August 30, she reportedly left her apartment, where she lives alone, to pay her electricity bill, following which she returned home, only to go out again. She never returned.
Her relatives only learned about her disappearance after Shawnette’s land-lady called to say that she had not seen her tenant in days.
