Dear Editor,
We are hearing that the Hon. President David Granger, has reiterated his intention to have a motion passed in Parliament to appoint a commission of inquiry, which would probe the large numbers of wild-west killings during the tenure of former President Bharat Jagdeo; from the year 2000-2008 which rightly should be from 2000-2010. As a very concerned citizen and having my country at heart, every minute I would ask myself if the President’s idea of a COI for the Guyanese people is not just another empty promise that would never become reality but talk and more talk.
Millions of our tax payers’ dollars were spent to Investigate corruption at all levels. This was done. Evidence of wrong doing was blatant, and yet no one was charged and placed before the courts, with the exception of a former minister and her secretary. The leader of the opposition party and other party members are all over the place writing in the media and on television challenging the government to bring the evidence of wrong doings against them, (the former PPP/C Government). To date that is not done. What is evident with this government is talk and more talk.
The Hon President Mr. Granger is talking again. He told the reporters that though the motion was unsuccessful in the Tenth Parliament, he still wanted to reopen the issue. Mr. Editor, I honestly believe that behind the scene something conspiratorial is going on and I am also sure that the APNU/AFC Government has all the evidence in their hands. Why not charge them? I have my own opinion on that.
Talk and more talk; that’s all it is. When a government minister brings computers to intercept people’s mobile phones; young men are shot in the back of their head with their hands ties; Sash Sawh assassinated but no inquest, Lusignan massacre, Bartica and Lindo Creek killings and yes all the other murderous acts, coupled with the extra judicial killing by members of the Police Force and other forms of criminals, violence/activities by people in high places. These are the kinds of things the President mentioned in his speech in Parliament recently
Talk and more talk nothing more but talk. I am sure the President knows that there’s a chapter in the Constitution which gives him the right/authority to appoint one or more commissions to inquire into any matter.
