Residents living in the Dredge Creek and Charity, neighboring communities on the Essequibo Coast, are concerned about the stench emanating from dead fish which have been surfacing in the area.
More of concern however, is that persons have been collecting the dead fish from the area and are eating them.
Chairman of the Charity Neighbourhood Democratic Council, Beatrice Parks, reported that when the problem of dead fish surfaced, a complaint was lodged with officers of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Parks now wants members of the agency to revisit the area and to conduct a test of the water to find out why the fish have been dying. Parks is afraid that residents could become ill if the fish was poisoned.
Residents in the riverain area used the water to cook, wash and clean.
