A 77-year-old man died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday, hours after he was involved in an accident on Sheriff Street, Georgetown. The accident occurred shortly after 06:30 hrs..
The dead man has been identified as Oswy Crum-Ewing, a father of five from Lot 79 North Sophia.
According to reports, the elderly man came out from a street and was about to cross Sheriff Street to go to the Guyoil gas station when he was struck down by a minibus that was heading south along the Public Road. The accident occurred in the vicinity of DSL.
The man’s granddaughter, Samantha Duncan in an interview yesterday said that after the accident, the old man was rushed to the hospital where he remained a patient in the Accident and Emergency Unit until he died shortly after 11:00 hrs.
“I was with him and like he went into a cardiac arrest. He was talking a little but he couldn’t remember what happened,” Duncan said.
She explained that while at the hospital, an X-ray was done which revealed that he had sustained a punctured lung and other internal injuries.
The driver of the bus is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
