In an effort to contribute towards literacy in Guyana, the Rotaract Club of the University of Guyana on September17, last, launched the Victoria Literacy Programme, in Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
The door of the Victoria Primary School was opened with a small ceremony to usher in a new year of learning. In attendance were President of Rotary Georgetown, Lisa Foster; District Rotaract Representative (DRR), Everistus Marie and Managing Director of Courts, Clyde Dehaas.
These honoured guests were thanked for their continued assistance and support of the programme. Rotary Georgetown, the sponsor of the RCUG, was instrumental in making the literacy program a reality.
Since 2012, Courts has been the main sponsor, believing in the vision of RCUG as well as the potentials of its beneficiaries.
For the remainder of the year, the literacy programme will be under the guidance of RCUG’s Community Service Director, Christine Bissoon. Rowena Sandy and Lyndel Johnson, the project’s coordinators will also be the spearheads.
