Fourth man remanded for Berbice triple-murder

A fourth man was yesterday charged in connection with the Berbice triple-murder in which the bullet riddled bodies of Pawan Chandradeo, Naresh Rooplall and Jaikarran Chandradeo were found in the Cookrite Backdam at Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne.
Rakesh Karramchan, 40, of Lot 2 Sheet Anchor, New Amsterdam, Berbice, was not required to plead to the indictable offence of murder, after he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that between July 21 and July 22, at Mibicuri Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice, he murder Pawan Chandradeo; his son Jaikarran Chandradeo and Rooplall.
An unrepresented Karramchan told the Magistrate, “Me ain’t murder nobody.”
Last month, Carlton Chetram, 38; his son Jairam Chetram, 18; along with Tameshwar Jagmohan, 26, all farmers of Mahaicony were remanded to prison for the same offence.
Karramchan, a cousin of Carlton Chetram, was captured last Sunday, after almost two months on the run. Undercover work from ranks attached to the Major Crimes Investigation Unit led to the arrest of the accused on a farmland at Duck Creek.
Karramchan was remanded to prison and will make his next appearance on October 4, in the Mibicuri Magistrate’s Court.
According to reports, the bullet riddled bodies of Pawan Chandradeo, 37; his son Jaikarran Chandradeo, 15; both of Mibicuri Creek, North and Naresh Rooplall, 33; of Number 70 Village, Corentyne Berbice were found on July 22. It was reported that the slain teen still had a bag with fish slug around his shoulder.
The corpses reportedly bore gaping shotgun wounds to the head and upper bodies. Reports indicate that the 18-year-old accused used his father’s shotgun to kill the three family members after he was instructed by his father to do so.
A relative of the deceased had told this publication that the men went into the Backdam to catch fish.
Based on reports, the victims were found by a rice farmer of Black Bush Polder and his workmen. It was reported that 13-year-old Alvin Chandradeo, who accompanied his father Pawan and brother Jaikarran was left at a pump station on a dam, as the others went further into the Savannah to fish. The lad stayed at the pump station from where he reportedly heard gunshots.
