Dear Editor,
There are people from both the PPP and PNC who are in active politics that hold acts of discrimination against the poor at arms-length for reasons that only reflect selfishness. If they chose to level with their conscience, it will become their moral imperative to become the change agents to drive the big changes needed to transform Guyana. Rather they choose to sell their soul so that they can “curry favour” with Godfather Granger and Godfather Jagdeo. I can immediately think of Khemraj Ramjattan.
When one looks at all the actions and observe all the words of Mr. Ramjattan, he comes across as nothing but a political poodle with no bite as he succumb to the wishes of the PNC every time. This is the inconvenient truth.
The so called skeptics to this message will want to say that President Granger needs more time, but when one looks at the performance in Ministries after Ministries, it is so far behind the PPP days after 16 months in office. This expose a serious competence issue in the PNC led APNU/AFC government. When Dr. Jagan came to office he did so much for the poor after 16 months that when he finally died, people from all races by the tens of thousands paid homage to him out of respect and adoration for his service to the poor.
The only people benefiting from this ruling Congress Place elite is their friends, family and the ex-GDF Officers. Of course there are the bag carriers like Nagamootoo and Ramjattan. Is this how they will develop a country?
This Granger administration promised less taxes for the poor from GRA, but the Minister of Finance raised over two dozen taxes, even on the poor “donkey kart” man. The PNC led Georgetown City Council has impoverish hundreds of PNC supporters who must be now regretting calling Jagdeo a pharaoh because under Jagdeo they made twenty times in income than under Granger.
They promised jobs for the young people but the reality on the ground is that only the under-qualified brothers, sisters and cousins of the Ministers can get proper dollar jobs in Guyana. Ask David Patterson. Same old PNC attitudes live on from 1970’s to today.
I had such faith in our system of democracy and in President Granger that I voted for him in May 2015. I actually believed his message on the campaign trail. But what I am seeing and what he has promised is like chalk and cheese and I feel lied to and cheated. I now have enough compelling reason to conclude, it matters not who is in power, the Guyanese people will be hurt
It is “neemakarams” like Ramjattan who are servants of money that have set up this great betrayal since they pretended that they understood the people’s pain when all along they were hunting for raw power. Once they got that shot, they had no problem supporting all like Mr. Norton and Mr. Larry Singh from also attacking the Treasury
So today, we “pun tap” and we got to use these 5 years to use the Treasury to make up for the lost 23 years. Who care if the poor people starve, they do not deserve even the 10% says Mr. Granger on his TV program. Therefore there is compellingly enough reason that the Granger administration will not cause a sea change in the lives of the people. So I am calling on all Guyanese, you have to keep the pressure up on these politicians
