Dear Editor,
I just returned from Guyana where I normally go for vacation. I am more of the adventurous type but could not do my normal Mazaruni trip this time because a dredge owned by Crown Mining Supplies has sunk and completely blocked the channel at Piremap falls. I learnt that this mishap happened almost two months ago and not much is being done to remove the dredge, rather most of the effort by the company is to recover and remove equipment that is on the dredge and little to move the actual hull. The two jet boat companies are closed off, the main fuel supply line is blocked even school children returning to school at Bartica cannot do so. What are the relevant Ministries and authorities doing? Why is there such silence on this matter? I know the owner of this company is a national sportsman and well known within the Government and the mining associations but that does not give him the right to put so many people out of jobs, and other inconvenience. I call on the relevant authorities to do something urgently. Thank you,
Ralph Persaud
