The first of sixteen (16) yachts expected for the 4th Annual Nereid’s International Yachting Rally have arrived in the Essequibo River to anchor off at the Hurakabra River Resort.
The Minister of Business & Tourism, Dominic Gaskin, will host an official Reception and Lunch to mark the occasion at Hurakabra at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
Minister Gaskin will be accompanied by Director General of Tourism, Mr. Donald Sinclair and Director of Guyana Tourism Authority, Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh.
Also attending the Official Reception will be the Chairman of Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni), Gordon Bradford, senior officials of the Coast Guard, Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD).
The Annual Yachting Rally has now been established as a major tourism event for Guyana, bringing to the country, on the first leg of the Rally, yachts from around the world.
On Friday, 16th September, 2016, the visiting yachts will be hosted by the Chairman of Region 7, Mr. Gordon Bradford, on a tour of Bartica, Marshall Falls and the Mazaruni and Cuyuni Rivers. On the following day, the Region 7 Administration will host a Beach Party at the Bartica Pavilion for visiting yachts.
Hurakabra River Resort, for the first time, in celebration of the Rally, will present a “Reggae on the River Concert” featuring First Born. A barbecue lunch will be held next Saturday (September 17) from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Transportation by bus and boat will depart the national Cultural Centre at 9:00 a.m. for the grand event.
The yachts gathered for the Rally in Trinidad & Tobago and were hosted to an official reception prior to their departure three days ago for Guyana’s Essequibo River. The Rally will depart Guyana on Monday, September 19, via Suriname for its conclusion at Saint Laurent du Maroni in French Guiana, where they will be greeted by the Mayor of Saint Laurent du Maroni, Leon Bertrand.
