A Diamond, East Bank Demerara woman was shot by one of two bandits around 19:00 hrs yesterday during a botched robbery at the victim’s grocery shop located at Seventh Avenue.
Gomattie Ramrattan, 55, was shot just under her left ear during the incident. She was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to information received, the woman had just reached home and opened her shop when the two bandits pounced on her.
They pretended to be customers for the first couple of seconds, but then one of them pointed a gun at the woman and demanded that she opened the grill on the door to allow them in.
When she refused to comply, they discharge a round—hitting her under her ear before escaping.
At the hospital, the woman’s sister, Rosita said that she was at a cremation when she received a call that the mother of two had been shot.
The woman said that she was only informed that her sibling was shot by bandits. “She is responding by showing signs, but she is not speaking.”
Investigations are ongoing.
