Dear Editor,
The letter by Roxanne Burnham Van West Charles was unexpected. Having written it, the contents were as expected. The letter was a defence of her husband’s shenanigans, juxtaposed with a lengthy description of her father that no one but her seems to know and no one really cares.
The man damaged this country in so many ways and has passed on over three decades ago. Really, who cares? More than seeking forgiveness for Goring, she is seeking salvation for her husband, Richard Van West Charles.
Richard Van West Charles, like Roxanne Burnham’s father, practices the same nepotism. Forbes Burnham made his son-in-law a government minister.
Can we cite Burnham and Van West Charles as one of the reason for the total failure and collapse of the health sector to the point that Forbes Burnham himself became a victim of his own mismanagement as it relates to the health sector. Goring can seek forgiveness from God, not from the Guyanese people.
He contributed to tarnishing the image of Guyanese abroad. Goring demonstrated that he is not trustworthy by getting convicted for drug trafficking, not once, but twice.
He should have stuck to operating his gym and being a director on the fuel company board controlled by Van West Charles and the Alphonsos. Goring must not remain on the state utility, the Guyana Water Inc. That is not a family and friends business. He was placed in a highly sensitive role with access to information on what customers owe and what are their monthly payments. Goring was not qualified for that job.
Roxanna Burnham states that he is working on his Masters in Business Administration (MBA). Since he does not have a first degree, then is he doing the MBA via a distance learning program? If it is the MBA offered by the Nations University locally? Van West Charles, Goring and others must be fired from the Guyana Water Inc. Examine all other appointments made by Charles. Anything else is unacceptable and demonstrates that nothing has changed since the days of the PPP where wrongdoers are sheltered and nepotism is rampant.
