Dear Editor;
I am aware that at the end of the day, little will come of this because as Guyanese we have been beaten down for so long that the power that we thrive on is our apathy.
I must say however, that I cannot sit back any longer and watch one injustice after another and stay silent. My most recent concern relates to the treatment of the Chief Education Officer, Olato Sam.
Is this the way a public servant should be treated? These are the people who have the task of doing the dirty work while others get shielded from the heat. It is a thankless, “bad-name” job, but I am sure that Mr. Sam is fully aware of this.
I am also sure that he was fully aware of the terms and conditions of his contract. I do know that he has served this country well, his work speaks for itself. What disturbs me then and should concern every other public servant in Guyana, is the way in which this was addressed.
This by no means encourages anyone to have confidence in the system; especially with the hundreds of other contracted public servants who are expected to do the work of the government . Simply put, people like the CEO who have given dedicated service to this nation deserve to be treated better.
Nichole Williams
