I cannot give the Town Clerk a pass grade in any area

Dear Editor,
If I were a teacher marking the performance of the Town Clerk of Georgetown over the last year since he was appointed I would have to give him a big fat ‘F’ for Failure.
Now let us look at his report card: First off, let us look at his pattern of payments to contractors, how could the city seriously rack up a debt of $250 million dollars to garbage contractors and then only pay them 1.2 million each? This is his first F.
With regard to the Occupational Health and Safety record that his workers are subjected to, it is a miserable failure. If we look at the Solid Waste Department and the findings by the Ministry of Labour, the abattoir and the method of slaughtering and the conditions that their storekeeper have to work under – an F. With regard to complete lack of democracy within the Council; the prevention of a Councillor from submitting a motion demanding a forensic audit, and his refusal to let all Councillors have a copy of the crooked parking meter contract – an F.
With regard to a promise he made to provide special housing projects to the various categories of workers and which he failed to do – an F. As it relates to getting the Stabroek Market clock working again, especially for the Jubilee month of May when most of the visitors were here- an F. As it relates to his treatment of the small business persons in the City known as vendors, who are without a permanent place to ply their trade- an F.
As it relates to his brutish demolition of the ‘Dread Shop’ with no compensation or remorse, he deserves an F. His constant late payment of municipal workers is sickening and certainly deserves an F. His lack of attention to the continued deterioration of the City Hall building, where his office is located and where the Councillors meet and debate, is just reckless and deserves an F. The bloating of the Council’s payroll with friends and family of senior officers and some Councillors under his watch, an extreme act of nepotism also merits an F .His failure to present the 2016 City budget to the citizenry even though we are already eight months into the year is financial malfeasance and warrants an F. And those are just a few of his colossal failures since he was hand- picked and catapulted into office and which proves Peter’s principle of one being promoted beyond one’s competence.
