No Insulin at the New Amsterdam Hospital

Dear Editor,
It is implausible to comprehend our Public Health Minister would spend millions of dollars to rent an incomplete structure/building, and drugs that are in demand on a daily basis by patients are scarce commodities.
For months, the New Amsterdam Hospital is without insulin and paper to conduct heart tests. The sad truth is many diabetic insulin dependent patients are forced to purchase insulin on a monthly basis, and most of them have to buy insulin at least twice a month depending upon the severity of their condition.
Imagine being an insulin dependent person and cannot afford to buy insulin on a monthly basis, what will become of you or your loved ones if for some reason(s) you’re unable to buy same?
We disparage the previous government for numerous things and we wanted to see things happen differently but the New Amsterdam hospital has never reached the state it’s in during the reign of the previous administration.
Several months ago patients that went to the hospital for simple extraction were told that they cannot get a bad tooth taken out from their mouth because needles weren’t in stock. Really? What is happening to our health system in Guyana? Does our Health Minister know what he is doing? It is clear that he cannot function efficiently, neither can he carry out the task that was mandated to him.
