Dear Editor;
Reports have surfaced recently of billions stashed away locally, and investments made in reputable mainstream (Blue Chip) companies. The amounts are staggering, and made even more incredible when it is noted that a single individual is where all the tentacles reach, and who claims to be swimming, if not drowning, in cash returns.
Consider this: one hundred million a year in profit is the equivalent of earning some three hundred thousand dollars per day, every day in a six day week, and year after prosperous year. I wonder…. As always if something is too good to be true, then it isn’t true and not nearly as good as touted. And if it flies in the face of all that is real and practical, then something is terribly wrong.
What is being offered/sold? What is this fabulous revenue lode that keeps rediscovering itself annually? What is the profit margin? Who are the shoppers in this dream enterprise? Where is the competition? Why are there no copycats?
Also, it must be remembered that there had to be found parking place and space for those immense cash donations, construction overruns, contract splitting, and other partnership sharing with the grateful, the sponsored, and the protected. In no time, the cash would pile up to the roof. Further, given the amounts brought to these shores (remember Mr. Cash Pilot and where he was headed), the amounts siphoned off, and the numerous secret undertakings and off-the-books and under-the-table ventures, the billions make sense, and the assets tell their own sordid story.
All that was required were many phantom fronts, and one bold front man willing to take the risk and ready to be the bagman and the fall guy, if matters spiraled out of control. There is nothing new here, as this was being said all along.
To provide a comparison, I have been around some heavy hitters, and unbelievably rewarding enterprises in the heart and towers of capitalism. They fade when compared to the narrow confines, limited opportunities, undeveloped financial architecture, and much smaller dollars at work, and which serve as bases and seed money at the domestic level here. Dollar for dollar the local financial alchemists come out ahead. Now the black hole of financial shenanigans is no longer so dark, or so mysterious. It is not so well disguised as once believed by those behind them.
I behold a shadowy financial panorama, slowly coming to light and that explains and solidifies many things that did not add up, that went nowhere. As matters go, it just might be possible, but more realistically reeking of the highly improbable, while stretching the limits of credulity beyond breaking point. As one wise man (Amiel) said, truth is not only violated by falsehood; it is equallyoutraged by silence. I say no more.
Last, things have to be put in perspective so as to appreciate the scale of the official underground. These explosive revelations are at the local level only, and identify just one Politically Exposed Person (PEP). To be sure, there have to be other players, a raft of them chained together in brotherhood and omerta. There are also other places to park proceeds. The foreign should come to mind.
