While new information has surfaced, many versions of the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a West Canje teen are emerging. The shooting occurred at Catherina’s Burg, some 75 miles up the Canje River.
Reports are that the dead man, 19-year-old Andel Daniels, of High Dam, Caracas, West Canje Berbice, was shot in his abdomen when a stairway collapsed under him. It was also reported that he was allegedly shot during a hunting trip.
Daniels, who traversed between his residence and various points up the Canje River, from where his relatives originate was reportedly shot dead Thursday evening. He and others would reportedly do farming, at Catherina’s Burg some two miles from Ikura and a further 20 miles from Bara Cara.
Reports are that after Andel got shot he was placed in boat and ferried to Ikura. From there he was placed in another boat to the medical center at Bara Cara and then to the New Amsterdam Hospital. He reportedly died on his way to the hospital. However it was reported that the lad and others were hunting when he got shot. It was also reported that he was descending some stairs which collapsed.
The police upon receiving word of the incident immediately dispatched a team led by Sergeant Grannum to conduct investigations. They first uncovered a 16-gauge double barrel shotgun in an abandoned boat at Ikura. The boat which had gathered water was allegedly used to transport the wounded teen from Catherina’sburg.
The police then journeyed to Catherina’s Burg where they uncovered a house in which the teen was allegedly living. The stairway as reported was detached from the house.
No one seems to know exactly how the teen got shot. Reports are that he farms and lives alone at the house. However investigators are finding the information hard to believe since there were signs of multiple occupancy. They are also looking for the persons who transported the man from Catherina’s Burg.
Relatives had reported that they received a call some time around 21:30 hours that Andel was shot and seriously injured and that he was being transported to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
They journeyed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where they waited. The body had one gunshot wound to the abdomen. There was no exit wound visible.
This is the second tragedy for the family in three years. Adel’s mother, Gould Marcell Amsterdam, called ‘Massa’, 37, who was seven months pregnant at the time, went missing since October, 2013.
The woman, who was a neighbourhood police rank at the time and a mother of three, was reported missing after she left to go and visit the father of one of her children, Errol Lindo who lived next door.
She has not been seen or heard from since then.
The lad leaves to mourn two brothers and one sister. He was the eldest child for his mother.
Investigation is ongoing.
