Dear Editor;
There is rampant cultivation and consumption of marijuana in the Santa Rosa Amerindian village, Moruca sub region, Region 1 (Barima-Waini) before the eyes of law enforcement officials and they are not doing anything about it. There is a police station based in the Santa Rosa village and it seems that its officers are not playing an active role, hence their inaction or refusal to stop marijuana cultivation and consumption in the village which are destroying the lives of Amerindians particularly the young, including school students. Villagers are highly concerned over narcotics consumption in the Santa Rosa village but they have no one to complain to.
The Village Toshao is currently completely unmoved since he appears unbothered by the cultivation and use of marijuana in his village of which he is the chief. I am calling on the Minister of Public Security, the Commissioner of Police and the customs Anti-narcotics Unit (CANU) to stamp out marijuana cultivation and consumption in the Santa Rosa Amerindian Village.
Concerned resident
