We need a decision on the airport’s janitorial contract

Dear Editor,

I would like to be given an opportunity to bring to light a problem that I think needs urgent attention and intervention by the President. An investigation should be launched immediately into what’s going on at the Cheddie Jagan International Airport and also at the Ministry of Infrastructure.
This letter regards the janitorial contract for the Cheddie Jagan International Airport that bids were submitted for in October of 2015. Four companies’ bids were opened at that tendering process.
To date, no contractor has been selected to provide this service despite the process has reached to Cabinet. What is the delay? It recently came to light that another company is being used to provide temporary service. Why is this company providing this service when they did not submit a bid and more so, why was the company that had the contract removed from the airport?
As a contractor for one of the companies that submitted a bid for this contract, I am demanding that answers be provided as to why this contract has not been awarded to one of the companies that participated in the bidding process, and I am certain my counterparts that participated in the process demand that a decision be made as to who will be providing this service.
No contact has been made to inform the participants of what’s happening with the contract. I am therefore calling on President David Granger to look into this matter since contractors would have followed all procedures to participate in the bidding process, and its unfair that a company that did not participate in the process to be providing this service. If the right thing isn’t done, legal actions will be sought against the airport as well as against the Ministry of Infrastructure.
