Jul 29, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor,
I have read a letter in the press of July 28th , 2016 by Mr. Lincon Lewis where he commented on the sending off of Colleen Hicks, Director of Nursing Services/ Matron of the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation, on administrative leave. I support all of what he had to say. However, I think he is a bit late in this regard.
He did not comment when many Indo- Guyanese workers, were sent off on Administrative leave or dismissed without any reason given. To name a few; Badri Persaud of Guy Oil, Lionel Wordsworth of D&I, Alexei Ramotar of E Gov. Project or the dozen of the indo – Guyanese managers from Guysuco.
He also kept quiet when ordinary Indo – Guyanese workers, including cleaners were fired from all parts of the public services. When we keep quiet when injustices are done anywhere it generally comes back to haunt. Keep it up Mr. Lewis, but you should speak out when injustices are done to any worker regardless of race, religion or creed.
Gopaul Singh
Editor’s note:
We feel constrained to bring to Mr. Singh’s attention that Mr. Lewis accused President Jagdeo of economic genocide against African Guyanese. He also accused President Jagdeo and his government of abandonment of bauxite workers who were illegally sacked. Mr. Lewis was also a witness for the defence in the libel trial in which President Jagdeo took this newspaper and its columnist, Freddie Kissoon to court for referring to him as an ideological racist. We are also constrained to ask Mr. Singh why at that time he did not write a letter in support of Mr. Lewis’s charges of racism against African Guyanese by the Jagdeo regime.

Mr Lewis, may be late but he is not burying his head in the sand and denying that the present government is not labor abusive. I still feel that Mr Lewis is still pussy footing where the salary of public service wages are concerned. He needs to take a stand similar to that in 1999.
