Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday jailed a marijuana seller for three years and fined

him $72,000 for trafficking 48 grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana).

The man, Ivor Greene, 46, of 27 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, admitted that on July 26, at Lot 69 Robb Street, Bourda, he had the prohibited drug in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones told the court that ranks from the Police Narcotic Branch went to the address mentioned in the charge and cordoned off the place. He said that the ranks observed Greene sitting on a pink and black travelling bag, approached him, and told him the reason for their visit.
According to the prosecutor, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found in the travelling bag. Under caution, Jones said that Greene remained silent and was escorted to the Narcotics Branch where the items were tested and weighed in his presence.
In a plea of mitigation, Greene begged for leniency and told the Magistrate that he resorted to selling the illicit drug because he was not finding a job. He said that he was released from prison two months ago, but did not state the nature of the offence for which he had been incarcerated.
