Selina Ramotar, the 29-year-old woman who was brutally stabbed more than 20 times by the father
of her child, has been released from the hospital. However, she has temporarily lost movement in the left arm due to the severity of injuries she received.
Ramotar was knifed to her breasts, hands, stomach and face on July 9, after her estranged lover Uttanpad Sewnaraine, ambushed her from a dark corner at her Lot 65 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown home.
The mother of one was admitted to a private city hospital in a critical condition with gaping stab wounds about her body.
Ramotar’s mother, Melina, said that she was released from the hospital last week. She added that doctors indicated that the arm should heal within the next two weeks before they proceed with therapy. The mother explained that the wounds her daughter received were so gaping, they damaged several nerves. She said that her daughter is unable to walk without aid and still has to visit the hospital for check-ups.
It was reported that Ramotar and Sewnaraine, 39, a bus driver, of Campbellville, Georgetown once shared a relationship and have a nine-year-old daughter together. A sister of the woman said that the relationship ended a while back but Sewnaraine refused to let go of her sister although he is married and has three children with his wife.
Family members of Ramotar claimed that the man would stalk her on numerous occasions and had planned to kill her.
A few days after the attack, Sewnaraine was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate charged with attempted murder. He was not required to plead to the indictable offence and was remanded to prison. He is being represented by Attorney Mark Waldron.
