The police are yet to apprehend a 21-year-old, Andrews, Essequibo Coast man who raped a 15- year-old, Eighth of May Secondary School student. Reports have indicated that the teenager was sent to a shop in her Village. She told her mother that on her way, the 21-year-old suspect rode up, placed her on the bicycle and rode away with her to the seawall where he proceeded to have sex with her. The report stated that the teenager returned home after the encounter with the suspect and reported to her mother what had transpired.
The mother then lodged a complaint with the police who have since launched an investigation but the suspect continues to evade them. Most recently, in the Essequibo Coast, a 71-year-old Bush Lot pensioner was implicated in the rape of his 13-year-old granddaugther. The man has since been charged and remanded to prison.
