Captains predict rivetting final tonight
Tonight’s final of the Ministry of Public Health ‘Stop Gender-based
Violence’ Soft Shoe Football Competition promises to provide rivetting action for what is anticipated to be a large turnout of fans.
Scheduled to be played at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, both captains of the two finalists North East La Penitence and Tucville during a pressing briefing at Guinness Bar yesterday guaranteed fans that the game will produce end to end action and both have expressed confidence of lifting the title and the chance to be crowned new champions.
North East La Penitence captain Michael Payne whose side was responsible for defending champions Sparta Boss’s inability to defend their title after beating them via penalty kicks in semi-final action on Thursday, predicted that they will defeat the highly favoured Tucville.
Payne in remarks at the briefing opened by thanking the Lord for bringing them this far in the competition and urged fans to come out and witness them in action.
“As the opposing captain said they are confident of beating us, but I want to assure him that we feel the same and I’m confident that we will win.”
On the other hand, Tucville’s Captain Delon Williams in his remarks spoke of his team as a mixture of youth and experience and promised that their game plan is what they are going to stick with and play their style of game.
“We will be sticking to our game plan which is to play as a team and this I believe will take us to the title,” Williams told the media.
Meanwhile, Co-Director of Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca assured the public that all systems are in place for a good and competitive final and urged that they come out and witness the final.
He said that while it is not his right to predict the game’s outcome, he was quick to point out that the underdogs North East La Penitence were coming off an impressive showing against Sparta Boss and expected them to put up a good fight against Tucville.
Mendonca also took the opportunity to appeal to all participants and fans to take pay attention to the theme of the competition, adding that because it has become a national scourge, everyone should seek the relevant information to eradicate its spread.
He then thanked all the sponsors who came on board to make the event possible.
In the third place playoff, Sparta Boss tackle Broad Street.
The winning team will receive $300,000, runner-up $200,000, 3rd place $100,000 and 4th place $50,000.
