WDFA and EDFA cancel matches
Rain continues to get the better of the associations which are
running off matches in the inaugural GFF/NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour Power National Under 17 League. West Demerara and East Demerara Football Association had both scheduled matches for this weekend but were forced to call off same due to more rainfall.
Eager to play, WDFA’s Beavers FC turned up at the Den Amstel Community Center ground but learnt that the association had called off matches since early yesterday morning.
Coach Samuel Semple told Kaieteur Sport that his charges are eager to play and were disappointed that no play was possible.
East Demerara Secretary Gidel Austin also informed that the Golden Grove ground which was scheduled to host matches was not in a state to host any.
Matches were also not possible in Berbice yesterday but Berbice Football Association President Keith Ojeer is hopeful that they are able to play three matches today.
The East Bank Football Association lone venue, Grove Playfield has not been in a playable state for three weeks as a result of rain which has prohibited cutting the field. All the associations are hopeful that the rain will ease so that they can be able to clip the grounds so that competitive action can resume.
