Guyana born Delroy Tyrrell will be representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Goodwill Swimming Championship which will be held in St. Lucia from August 19-21, 2016. Delroy, who represented Trinidad in the last three Goodwill Swimming Championships, competed in the just concluded National Age Group Short Course swimming championships held at the St. Michael Swimming pool in San Fernando from the 6-10 July.
This ASATT (Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago) sanctioned meet is used to select the national team for the goodwill championships. Competing in the 13-14 age group, Delroy who is in his first year of this age group, achieved times in three events; 50 back (31:32 secs), 100 back (1:08:67 secs), and 100 fly (1:06:84 sec). He also swam best times in 200m free (2:13:23 secs) and 200IM (2:31:34).
Coached by veteran coaches Hazel and Chabeth Haynes, the Tidal Wave Aquatics swimmer is hoping to play his part in helping Trinidad and Tobago retain the Goodwill Swimming Championships which they won for the last two years. Delroy resides in Trinidad with his parents Drs. Fitzroy and Jianna Tyrrell and brother, Dominic.
