Shemar Wilson, who is wanted by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in connection with the June 4, grenade-throwing incident in front of Kaieteur News on Saffon Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, is believed to have fled the country.
Shortly after the incident, investigators had issued a wanted bulletin for Wilson on June 10.
According to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, the police have received information that the suspect may have fled the jurisdiction (Guyana) to a neighbouring country.
Blanhum said that they are presently exchanging information with the law enforcement officials in that country, he continued that “we’re very optimistic that we’ll have him before the courts as soon as possible.”
The 20-year-old Shemar Wilson, aka “Abdue” is alleged to have been the thrower of a grenade at a vehicle belonging to the publisher of Kaieteur News, Glenn Lall.
Wilson’s last known addresses are Lot 43 North Sophia, Georgetown and Lot 51 West La Penitence, Georgetown.
Alfie Garraway, 36, of Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown; Janeil Howard, 20, of Lot 322 Section ‘C’ Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara and Leroy Williams, 25, of Lot 11 D’Urban Backlands were arrested and charged with conspiring, together with other persons, to cause an explosion by way of grenade likely to endanger lives and cause damage to property.
Surveillance footage from one of Kaieteur News CCTV cameras had shown a grey coloured “Spacio”, slowing as it approached Mr. Lall’s vehicle.
A hand was seen outstretched as it dropped an object, later revealed to be a fragmentation grenade. The car then accelerated as the grenade was thrown.
The grenade was subsequently discovered by a staff member after investigating the source of a loud noise, it was found near the right front wheel of Lall’s vehicle.
The incident occurred at around 22:00hrs on the night of June 4, as Kaieteur News staff gathered at the “wake” of deceased colleague, Dale Andrews.
