Three of four men who were implicated in 2013 in a daring high profile robbery in the island of Wakenaam, in the Essequibo River were each sentenced to jail on Thursday when the lengthy case came to an end.
Delwyn Croft,35, of 589,Tuschen Housing Scheme was sentenced to 40 months while his cohorts Jermaine Williams, a/k” Yankee”, of Gas Station Street, Anna Catherina and Alan Dorset were each sentenced to 30 months.
Esan Lawrence, 35, of Vreed-en-Hoop Jetty, West Coast of Demerara received a sentence of 26 months. Khyran “50 cents” Khan, of East Ruimveldt Squatting area had his sentencing deferred to facilitate a probation hearing.
The men all appeared at the SUDDIE Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
According to a police report, on September 7, 2013, at Good Success,Wakenaam, while armed with guns the men invaded the premises of businessman, Rohan Dhanayshure. After discharging several rounds in the air they proceeded to rob the businessman of some $3.3M worth in jewellery and another $3M in cash. During the robbery the businessman was hosting a wedding on the Island.
The men were also fingered in several other high profile robberies outside of the region and the murder of Zulficar Namdar; formerly of Met-en-Meer-Zorg.
