The Guyana Cricket Umpires Council (GCUC) on Sunday last observed its 45th anniversary with a ceremony held at Union Building, Woolford Avenue.
Cricket commentator and long standing umpire Matthew Kissoon delivered the charge to umpires, while GCB treasurer Anand Kalladeen congratulated the council on its achievement.
GCUC head Dhieranidranauth Somwaru urged the umpires to continue their good work, while uttering his disappointment at the low turnout, especially from Essequibo and Berbice. He said that umpires must acknowledge the importance of such events and it can only help them to improve.
The function got going with prayers and the singing of the National Anthem.
