A constable attached to the Joint Special Operations Group (JASOG) was in custody last night after he was held with an assortment of ammunition.
Kaieteur News understands that around 18.30 hrs last night, senior police ranks, acting on information, searched a locker at the JASOG headquarters.
On checking a haversack belonging to the constable, the ranks unearthed eight 7.62×39 rounds (used in the AK-47 assault rifles), 23- nine millimeter rounds and three .38 rounds of ammunition.
Kaieteur News understands that the same constable was questioned last year about the death of a prisoner at a West Coast Demerara police station.
He has been placed under close arrest at the Tactical Services Unit Headquarters.
