The Samaritan Sports Support System (SSSS) and the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education successfully hosted a one week coaching courses for teachers in Georgetown.

Participants display their certificates and balls alongside representatives of the organisers and tutors.
The course which attracted 31 teachers from 20 city primary schools concluded yesterday at the National Gymnasium with a simple ceremony where participants where given certificates and balls for the respective schools.
Participants were tutored on the laws of the game and coaching technique at the National Resource Centre where the programme was held; it was facilitated by GVF head John Flores, leader of the SSSS Robert Sam and coach Jadeshwar Doolchand.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport Flores said they will be hosting another such clinic in the near future for schools in the city. He added that the course was successful and innovative, and designed to place knowledge into the school system which he feels is a good platform to develop volleyball.
“We are hoping to commence training with a group of young players because we intend to participate in the Inter Guyana Games and South American U16 and U17 tournaments. This is an excellent idea by the support group and the Ministry of Education Allied Arts department. I hope that this programme can expand nationwide and we are looking forward to working with this group and churches for the growth of the sport,” he explained.
The participants presented $50,000 to the GVF at the conclusion of the ceremony.
