The Periwinkle Cancer Club collaborated with the Ministry of Health to spread the message, “Early detection saves lives” through outreach programmes to Regions Four and Nine.

During those outreaches it was found that cancer awareness programmes and educational sessions are sorely needed to help minimize the rising number of persons affected by cancer.
The Periwinkle Cancer Club has been assisting persons during the last six months in their fight against cancer by way of monetary donations which have amounted to several million dollars.
This financial aid was used for much needed scans, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Members of the club also attend directly to the welfare of cancer patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital Inc. (GPHC), especially in the Paediatric ward where they carry snacks and toys for children affected by cancer.
In addition to these activities the Periwinkle Club also held a blood-drive at which members of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) donated several units of blood.
This month the club plans to distribute hampers to 35 cancer survivors and will conduct awareness outreaches in collaboration with the Guyana Society for the Blind.
