The dead man has been identified as Sherwin Wilson, a father of two of Lot 8 Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Wilson’s body was brought to the wharf on Sunday with four persons onboard a fishing boat. The four were taken into police custody.
A post mortem examination performed on Wilson’s remains yesterday revealed that the man died as a result of drowning.
There are reports that the man had additional injuries to the back of his head.
Kaieteur News was told that Wilson and his crew were heading to the Venezuelan border when the tragedy occurred.
According to information received, Wilson left his home to go out on sea two Sundays ago and was expected back home in two weeks.
“He (Wilson) said that he was going out to work on sea because when he out here he barely working for li’l bit money. He said that when he come back he will do the kitchen. He was saying what else he gun do,” the man’s reputed wife, Fay Torres, said.
She added that before he left home he asked her to take good care of his three-year-old son and eight-month-old daughter.
The woman explained that she was home cooking on Sunday when she heard that the boat her husband was working on came back and was at the wharf.
“I was hurrying to cook because I say when he come home he gun be hungry. While cooking, my neighbour asked if I heard the boat come and I said yes,” Torres said.
She added that her neighbour then told her that she heard that Wilson had died while at sea. “I laugh because I thought it was a joke and she told me that she is serious and tell me to go to the wharf and check.”
Torres said that she went to the wharf to confirm whether her reputed husband had indeed died.
“When I went there, I saw his boss and I told him that I heard my husband had died and he said that he heard that too. After couple minutes, we saw they bring out his body,” the woman said.
Investigations are ongoing.
