Dear Editor,
The country can do well if qualified and experience persons are employed in the public sector. There are many qualified persons seeking jobs that can turn this country around. We all know that the country is going through a recession because of manmade factors starting with the corrupt PPP regime. The PPP had an abundance of skills in its armory that were left to rot; they also left. Many of those who migrated preferred to stay and work in their homeland, but because of lack of jobs they had one option and that was to migrate.
The regime at that time was employing friends and family who basically were a liability to the country. In addition, these friends and family were stealing with the knowledge that they will be protected. So basically employing friends and family had a double blow to the country’s economy. The first was a vacuum in the knowledge center of the economy that could have triggered growth in the economy. The second was the loss of income of the country from theft and other forms of corruption. So in effect we had a sluggish economy with many hands in the till. It was like stealing from the dead.
I personally know of persons with professional qualification without jobs. There are persons with ACCA and other university qualifications who are at home or severely underpaid. Persons with these qualifications are sought after especially in the Commonwealth countries because of their knowledge and experience.
I hope the new government utilizes their home based skills in their quest for the country recovery. A qualified public sector will create wonders for this country if the politicians allow it. Not because of some loyalty in the election campaign or of a particular race one should automatically be given a job; this is a burden to the country. Find some other ways to payback a party loyalist. Turning around this country requires the qualified and experience citizens. The end result will be a flourishing economy from which party loyalist can be compensated.
