Recently-captured murder suspect Stafrei Alexander is now being implicated in two more killings at Linden and a spate of robberies at Berbice.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum disclosed yesterday that police are questioning Alexander, who was detained last week, about the murder of 43-year-old Richard Remington, as well as the killing of Alexander’s alleged accomplice, Robin Maxwell Thomas.
Remington’s bullet-riddled body was found in a clump of bushes in the Christianburg/ Cholmondeley Hill area at Wismar on February 12, 2015, a few days after residents reported hearing gunshots.
Police subsequently revealed that Remington, a Linden resident, was a suspect in several armed robberies and burglaries. These included the chopping of a woman at Mahdia and a brutal attack on a Kara Kara family.
Winston Hinds, 23, called “Town Man,” of Lot 28 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, and Owen Belfield, 27, of Lot 59 Victory Valley, Linden, were charged last January with Remington’s murder. At the time, police had indicated that they were hunting for three other suspects.
Kaieteur News understands that two of the suspects have implicated Alexander in Remington’s murder.
And police have now fingered Alexander in the murder of his alleged accomplice Robin Maxwell Thomas, whose body was found in the Demerara River last December.
Alexander and Thomas, along with Aiden Bowen, of Blueberry Hill, Wismar, were charged with the April 4,
2015 murder of businesswoman Shevon Gordon, who was shot near her One Mile, Linden home. But Alexander and Thomas broke out of the Mackenzie Police Station lockups last December.
Thomas’s decomposing body was found in the Demerara River, in the vicinity of West Watooka, some weeks later. A post mortem revealed that he had sustained head injuries.
Police have received information that Alexander, who was captured last week while travelling in a bus in the Rupununi, clubbed Thomas in the head and pushed the body overboard.
It is believed that Thomas had implicated Alexander in the killing of Shevon Gordon.
Police said that Alexander is also being questioned in connection with a spate of armed robberies in Berbice.
