Guyana’s Restaurant Week was launched on Wednesday at Herdmanston Lodge under the theme; “Explore, eat and repeat”.
A press conference was held by president of GTA Indranauth Haralsingh and THAG president Shaun McGrath at the launching, which was followed by a wine seminar.
This is the second Restaurant Week to be held in Guyana and was hosted by the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) in collaboration with the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Ministry of Public Telecommunications. Several private sponsors are also on board.
The Ministry of Tourism is also a part of the initiative as Guyana prepares to celebrate her 50th Anniversary. The Restaurant week has been organized as part of Guyana’s Jubilee celebrations.
Restaurant Week is slated to be run from April 29 to May 8. At the launching THAG President Shaun McGrath was on hand to touch briefly on the restaurants that are competing and the rules of competition.
McGrath stated that because of the holidays around the duration of this planned restaurant week, they (THAG & GTA) decided on this period as restaurants are usually very busy on National Holidays.
Last year’s Restaurant week saw some 16 restaurants compete, this year’s launch has seen an increase with 20 restaurants now competing. The new competitors are Buddy’s Chinese Restaurant, Aagmaan Indian Restaurant; Roraima Duke Lodge and Herdmanston Lodge’s Sucre restaurant are now all onboard.
These restaurants will all be serving lunch menus for prices of $2000 and dinner menus for $4000-$5000, these prices are all Guyana Restaurant week prices.
McGrath touched on the wine seminar that was scheduled to follow the press conference and intimated that participants would be educated on how to serve wines, the different wine glasses, types of wines and the knowledge of a range of wines so that they could better inform and serve their respective customers.
