The police at Reliance Police Station, East Canje, were able to take another drug dealer off the street after a lively chase along the East Canje Public Road.
Acting on information, around 17:00 hrs on Thursday that a known drug dealer was in the place and plying his trade, the cops responded immediately. However before the cops could have reached the location they noticed the man and an accomplice riding on the Goed Bananen Land Public Road.
The men rode past the cops who were in an unmarked vehicle. The cops turned around and drove past the men stopping a little way ahead. Alighting from the vehicle the police signaled for the men to stop. While one man obeyed the drug dealer picked up speed and rode past the cops.
What the drug dealer did not cater for was the fitness of the police. A few of the young policemen immediately gave chase on foot.
The sprinting cops soon gained ground on the drug dealer on his bicycle. Seeing that he was being overtaken the man made a sudden dash through a street even as he disposed of a bag he was carrying in a nearby trench. His sudden right angle turn into the street sent him sprawling on the ground as the police pounced upon him.
The man, Leonard Ramoutar, 21, of Betsy Ground, East Canje resisted arrest. He tried his utmost to escape the grasp of the cops. It took the efforts of about five police ranks to subdue him.
The haversack was retrieved from the trench, opened and checked. Inside was found a black plastic bag which contained zip locks bags with what appeared to be leaves, seeds and stems of the marijuana plant. The contents were tested and weighed and turned out to be 30grams of marijuana.
Ramoutar is in custody and is expected to be charged soon.
