Story about an inhuman soldier in our army

I wish to inform the public as well as the Chief of Staff and Commander in Chief of the Guyana Defence force of a situation that i witnessed two days ago at the GDF Headquarters, Base Camp Ayanganna (BCA). As most of you might know, the GDF (Novice) Boxing competition is scheduled to commence on Monday the 11th of April 2016.
It so happened that I took a stroll into the medical center at BCA, There I met a private soldier who seemed to be very upset so I approached him and asked him what the matter was. He then related to me that he was involved in an accident in early 2015 where he suffered a broken arm. He said that he told the warrant officer (WO) that he is not in the right shape to be involved in the boxing competition this year.
However, he claimed that the WO demanded that he participate in the event and even threaten to charge him if he refused. He said that to avoid being charged and placed on guard duties or placed in the cell he decided to go to the boxing practice.
However, during a sparring match at the practice session his arm got injured and began to swell. I could see that he was in pain so I didn’t bother to question him any further. However, he stated that the WO still demanded that he participate at the upcoming competition unless he is given an exemption from the medical center there.
He said that in order for him to obtain such, he has to present the X-Ray that he did at the time his arm got broken. He said that the X-Ray got destroyed so he cannot have the exemption.
I know that most, if not all of us are very happy when our youths are involved in something meaningful and honest, but then on the other hand, there are people like this Warrant Officer, who tend to discourage our youths.
I think that most of the folks of rank in the military need to realize that these privates are human beings just like yourselves and not animals. How can one be so heartless as to have someone with an arm that was broken not so long ago involve in a boxing contest. Last time i checked, you have to use your hands to box.
I am pleading with Mr. Philips to look into matters like these and have them rectified or very soon the GDF will be out of soldiers. I will be visiting the base again very soon to have a chat with this private soldier to know what was the out come of the matter.
